The principle by which Power Plate machines work lies in the law of motion, stated by Sir Isaac Newton: that the force of an object is equal to its mass multiplied by acceleration, or f = m x a. If you have ever lifted a weight then your body has already experienced the effects of acceleration training. Essentially the plate works on the same principal as any other strength training application. When we lift a weight the muscle contracts as it attempts to overcome the effect gravity has on the weight. In the case of the Power Plate the vibration causes the muscles to contract as a reaction to the movement of the plate. Except this is happening at a rate of up to 50 times per second! The body doesn’t know (or care) what causes the contraction so the effect is the same. More contractions means a more efficient workout.
The biggest reason is the sheer amount of muscle fiber recruited during acceleration training. Research shows that previously inactive fibers are woken up during vibration training especially when the vibration occurs in 3 planes of movement. When you use 98% of a muscle as opposed to 20% your workout will take less time. Secondly when the body encounters vibration it reacts by tensing the muscles in something called a “tonic contraction”. In the same way your leg kicks out on its own when your doctor taps your patellar tendon the muscles contract automatically as the plate moves up and down. (again more muscle equals a more efficient workout) Finally the instability caused by the 3 directions that the Power Plate moves helps to strengthen supporting muscles, joints and the core.
Circulation…All those muscles contracting means that circulation increases dramatically. Blood flow means good stuff comes in (like nutrients) and bad stuff goes out (like lactic acid) of the muscles increasing healing and making you feel better.
Flexibility…That same contraction reflex that makes your workouts more efficient helps the muscles to relax allowing for incredible increases in flexibility in a short amount of time. People don’t stretch because it hurts and takes too much time with only minutes a day you can painlessly increase flexibility which improves quality of life.

Balance and Stability…By moving in 3 direction the body is forced to react (otherwise we would fall over). When we train in an unstable environment it makes us better at life so whether we slip on ice or walk on an uneven surface our body can react reducing our chance at injury.
