With water being such a big part of your body’s makeup, it is important to replenish the water that your body loses throughout the day during normal bodily activities such as sweating, going to the bathroom, and even simply breathing. Staying hydrated is the key to being able to function at an optimum level!

How much water do you need?

The general guideline of 6 to 8 glasses per day has been used a lot in the past, but this is not necessarily the right number for everyone. How much water a person needs depends on a variety of factors, including how much exercise they get in a day, if they are going to be outside in hot weather, or if they are pregnant or breastfeeding. Some people may not need 8 full glasses of water per day to stay healthy, while others may need more.

Tips for staying hydrated:

  • Keep a bottle of water with you throughout the day
  • Drink before, during, and after a workout
  • Start and end your day with a glass of water
  • Try adding some fruit slices to a glass of water to give it a healthy boost of flavor that will keep you drinking
